    Description

IDEAL NOVELTY & TOY COMPANY'S "COPYRIGHT PENDING" EARLY EDITION Composition SHIRLEY TEMPLE DOLL - Needs much TLC
Vintage 1930s earlier edition!  RARE and Hard to Find!
Shirley Temple was a beloved American child actress and tap dancer who sang and cheered the American public during the Great Depression.  The first Shirley Temple dolls were marketed in the fall of 1934 when Shirley Temple was just beginning to gain popularity.  Because Ideal (the ONLY company licensed to sell the Shirley Temple doll) did not know how successful the dolls would be, the first dolls were prototypes with no “Shirley Temple” markings.  Because of the success of that doll, Ideal applied for a patent / copyright and during the first years of production, the name SHIRLEY TEMPLE was stamped on the doll along with COP, which stood for Copyright Pending.
The doll being offered here has what appears to be a well-worn “COP” (C with the O and P inside it) marking on the back of the head/neck.  See pic #4.
The complete marking on the neck/back of the head is the number “13” above SHIRLEY TEMPLE (in a straight line) and IDEAL (and what appears to be N. & T. Co. which stands for Novelty and Toy Co) under the SHIRLEY TEMPLE.  The back is marked SHIRLEY TEMPLE (in a half circle / arch) and the number “13” under it.   Refer to pics of the markings / signatures.
I am not a doll expert but based on my research of the history of the Shirley Temple doll's early markings and the markings on this doll, the doll being offered here appears to be an early edition and most likely designed by Mollye Goldman who designed the earliest editions.
However, I cannot guarantee that for sure.
I have taken several pics to show details of the markings and the condition of the doll for you to make your determination.  I'd be happy to provide you with more pics and/or answer any questions you may have.
This doll has sleep eyes, open smiling mouth with upper teeth showing, original hair and eyelashes, and original clothes, socks, and shoes.  She is 13” long.
The clothing/socks/shoes are well worn and dirty, the head is floppy, hair / wig is matted, and the body has several cracks, crazing and worn/scuff marks.  No missing limbs.  Doll needs restoration / repair.  Is there a doctor in the house?
    Being sold “as is”.
This doll would make a great restoration project to restore her to her original beauty!
Please note, I only ship within the 48 Continental US states.
