Presumed age: 1970s to early 1980s.
Superb "Kpélié" mask, from the Senoufo ethnic group, from the North of Côte d'Ivoire.
The piece is very delicately crafted. We notice the presence of three hornbills in crest, a mystical animal among the Senoufo. It symbolizes happiness and prosperity, and being lucky enough to spot one is considered auspicious.
The room is relatively large for a mask of this type. It benefits from multiple ethnic engravings, with superb rendering.
Beautiful, predominantly dark patina, with nuances of color and thickness.
