Baoulé Mouse Box - Ivory Coast

Dimensions of 32 x 26 x 18 cms.
Weight of about 2,700 kgs without packaging.
Materials: Wood, metal, vegetable fibers.
Presumed age: 1980s or later.
Magnificent representation of a mouse box, with the container engraved with different protective masks.
Mouse boxes, used by diviners, are used to reveal certain truths to the whole village. The diviner places grains of rice in the box, and the passage of the mouse over these grains will allow him a certain reading. He can thus and for example identify the culprit of an act.
